Monash University International Students Services (MUISS)
One World Week is an event that aims to encourage better knowledge, acceptance and appreciation of the diversity of experience and cultural heritage to be found at Monash University. One World Week is one of the highlights of the student calendar.
The event is a week full of festivities, with each day celebrating a different continent, from Africa and America, to Asia, Europe and Australia. There are plenty of activities planned, as numerous university clubs and societies are lined up to bring you the cultures from around the world.
Whether you participate or just soak up the exciting atmosphere, you’re guaranteed an enjoyable and unforgettable multicultural experience. So drop by and have a taste of the globe

MONDAY - Africa and America Day
Carnivale: 11am-2pm
The culture of South America is renowned for its carnivals all year round. One World Week is bringing all the fun, colour and excitement of carnival-style games to Monash. Look out for Carnivale on Monday and Thursday.
Caricaturist: 11am-12.30pm
Ever wondered what you’ll look like - as a cartoon??? Be transformed into a TV or Hollywood star with our caricaturist.
African Drum Workshop: 1pm-2pm
As well as getting yourself immersed in the beats of tribal Africa, learn the technique yourself by beating your own drum.
Pool Competition: 4pm-6pm
Compete in the One World Week pool competition, and put yourself in the running for some amazing prizes.
'Fantastic Feeds' (American/African Food)
There’s probably nothing more American than having a Hot Dog at a baseball game. OK…we won’t have any baseball, but we will have Hot Dogs!! You also won’t want to miss out on the Subway-eating competition.
TUESDAY - Europe Day
Balloon Artist: 11am-2pm
Hunt down the most colourful character on campus (literally!), and get your very own wacky balloon mock-up.
French Mime: 11am-12.30pm
Get a taste of Paris with our roving French Mime act. You’ll truly be entertained with this comedic presentation of an art-form that dates back to ancient times.
Trivia Night: 4pm-6pm
Think you know your cultures? Think again! Get yourself in the draw for some great prizes and learn some bizarre facts along the way.
'Secondi' (Europe Food)
You wouldn’t believe it, but European cuisine is amazingly diverse! There are too many different types of food to mention, that you’ll just have to come along to see (and taste) what’s on the menu.
WEDNESDAY - Asia Day
Saudi Arabian Society Dance: 1pm-1.30pm
Spice up your Wednesday as the Saudi Arabian Society bring you sultry dances all the way from the Middle East. The exotic chants and swords will no doubt captivate.
Japanese Drums: 1.30pm-2pm
Don’t miss out on the Japanese drum (or “Taiko”) exhibition. This artform has mesmerised audiences for over 2000 years, and now it’s your turn. Be impressed by the native costumes, the looming drums and the rhythms of the Far East.
'Radical Rations' (Asia Food)
Asian food – speaks for itself doesn’t it?? You will not be disappointed by the selection of cuisines on offer today.
THURSDAY - Australia and Multicultural Day
Reptile Encounters: 11am-2pm
Time to go back to the bush! Come tongue-to-tongue with some of Australia’s most feared and weird-looking creatures.
MCJAF Juggling and Fire Twirling: 12pm-1pm
Be amazed by some of Monash’s own talent, as these students make juggling and fire twirling look like a trick of the past. They will be sure to set the stage on fire..not literally of course...an act not to be missed.
Face Painting: 12pm-2pm
Colour your world with our One World Week face painter! There’s no better way to celebrate Multicultural Day, than by parading with your national colours.
MMJ Flashmob and Performance: 1.45pm-2pm
This interactive event invites everyone to move their bodies to the music of different cultural dances. From Hip Hop, Jazz, to the Macarena - there’s a dance step to interest everyone!
'Ya Like Snags' (Australia Food)
No one can celebrate Australia Day without grabbing a snag from the One World Week BBQ. Keep an eye out for other cuisines from around the region.
